The Right Livelihood Award Foundation usually offers traineeships in both the head office in Stockholm and in Geneva during two periods every year. We are currently not accepting any applications.

A traineeship normally lasts for a period of approximately 6 months:

  • January to July
  • August to January

Traineeship opportunity

The Right Livelihood Award is an annual prize for ‘outstanding vision and work for people and the planet’. Established in 1980 and known widely as the ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’, the Award honors and supports people "offering practical and exemplary answers to the most urgent challenges facing us today", and to date has honored 162 Laureates from 67 countries. 

The Right Livelihood Award Foundation has its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden and an office in Geneva, Switzerland. The Geneva office has a focus on researching candidates nominated for the Award, coordinating the Foundation’s work to support Laureates, and highlighting Laureates’ work in International Geneva.

This year, the Geneva office will be hosting the first ever Regional Conference of Right Livelihood Award Laureates in Europe from October 28-November 1 2016. The Foundation seeks a trainee to play a key role in assisting in the organizing of this event.

Regional Conference Trainee position

Main tasks:

  • Liaison with invited Right Livelihood Laureates and arranging their flights
  • Liaison with the conference venue
  • Communicating with project partners in Geneva, and assisting in conceptualization and organization of side events
  • Work with the RLA communications team to maximize publicity around the regional conference
  • Assist in organizing the practical arrangements, logistics and transport around the conference
  • Assist in rapporteuring sessions during the conference and reporting after the conference
  • Support the team in organization of events in Geneva around the 2016 Right Livelihood Award Ceremony in December
  • Provide research support to the protection program to support threatened Laureates
  • General office support 



  • University studies (ongoing or finished)
  • Experience with organizing logistics and events in Geneva
  • Proven ability to do practical work and provide office support
  • Proven ability in organizing large conferences and meetings, with a flair for organization and detail
  • Knowledge about and interest in social, environmental, human rights and/or development questions



  • Excellent oral and written English and French.
  • Fluent Spanish would be an advantage.



  • Starting date: April 15, 2016 – for a period of 8 months
  • This is a fulltime position
  • Gross salary: 1,100 CHF/month
  • Applicant must hold a valid Swiss work permit
