Meet the new Laureates

In three weeks, the 2009 Right Livelihod Award Laureates will come to Stockholm to receive the prize in the Swedish Parliament.

But what else is on their schedule?

Alyn Ware will travel to several German cities and Oslo, David Suzuki and René Ngongo to Lund in Southern Sweden. Afterwards, René will continue to Brussels for meetings at the European Parliament, to the climate summit at Copenhagen, and from there to Zurich.

What are the new Laureates doing right now?

Shortly after the prize announcement, René Ngongo told us that his phone kept ringing all day and that it was much easier now to get appointments at ministerial level...

Meanwhile, The David Suzuki Foundation published a study that shows that Canada can meet global-warming reduction targets while suceeding economically. They say that it is the first study to show regional impacts on employment and GDP, and the first to comprehensively examine how the country can meet a greenhouse gas reduction target that goes beyond the federal government’s target. Catherine Hamlin has been on tour through Australia celebrating her ''golden jubilee'' with supporters, marking 50 years in Ethiopia, and the premier screening of a new documentary on her work, titled Lighting a Candle...

And Alyn Ware wrote an article in the Huffington Post about nuclear disarmament, concrete steps being undertaken to reach this goal, and commenting on the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama: Thinking the Unthinkable on Nuclear Policy. Read more
