Tackling climate change through SDRs | ![]() |
IMF Managing Director, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, has taken up Jakob von Uexkull’s and the WFC’s suggestion to finance climate security and climate justice in developing countries through Special Drawing Rights, SDRs. The idea is to create a new multi-billion dollar “Green Fund” that could provide up to $100 billion a year.
SDRs are reserve assets created by the IMF. Such SDRs would not cause inflation if used to build new sustainable facilities, like wind-farms and solar-panels, Jakob von Uexkull, Founder and Chairman of the RLA, says. Money creation in this manner could finance a global Green New Deal. "This offers possibly the biggest entrepreneurial chance of all times.”
