Nnimmo Bassey (Nigeria, RLA 2010) detained

On December 19th, Nnimmo Bassey and Environmental Rights Action (ERA) staff were on official assignment to a gas flare facility in the company of foreign parliamentarians when they were detained by men of the Joint Military Task Force at Oben, a border town between Delta and Edo State, on the allegation that they were on a clandestine mission.

The group was released after a couple of hours. ERA Program Director Godwin Ojo demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

An intensive year for the Right Livelihood Award is coming to its end, in which the Foundation's 30th Anniversary Conference "CHANGINGcourse, reclaiming our future" brought together 75 Laureates in Bonn, Germany, in September.

We from the Right Livelihood Award Foundation want to express our heartfelt thanks to all who have supported the foundation and the causes of our Laureates during this year!

Jakob von Uexkull stated in his 2010 Ceremony Speech: "Today we are the guardians of all future generations of life on Earth. The consequences of our actions (and our inaction!) will have greater and longer-term consequences than ever before." Thus we would be happy if you considered to support us in 2011, too! All necessary information can be found here.

Warm Season's Greetings and all the best for 2011!
